The electric hatchback, produced by Chinese automaker Ora, part of the Great Wall Motors (GWM) group, has gained a more powerful motor and a new battery pack, while retaining the retro styling that made it famous almost unchanged.
According to documents submitted to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Ballet Cat now delivers 201 hp, up from 169 hp in the previous version.
Top speed has also increased from 154 km/h to 180 km/h, while a new lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery replaces the previous pack, although its capacity has not yet been disclosed.
Launched in 2022, the model draws attention because of its similarities to the original Beetle, including its circular headlights, rounded body lines, and distinctive silhouette.
Despite its nostalgic appearance, the interior features modern technology and unconventional equipment, such as an illuminated makeup mirror, an integrated selfie camera, and the so-called “Warm Man Mode,” a function that quickly heats the cabin with a single command.
Although it has gained recognition for its design inspired by the German classic, the Ora Ballet Cat remains a niche model in the Chinese market, with sales of only a few thousand units per year.
The mechanical update is intended to improve its competitiveness, but the vehicle is expected to remain exclusive to China, with no plans for launch in other markets.
